Sail Series
Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose, Reclaim, Redux : all 21st Century buzz words to help keep our planet healthy! So what better way for me to adhere to these principles than to use nautical salvage as a ‘canvas’ for my paintings and as inspiration for my art? Awash with texture and color, these works use the sail’s geometric shapes as a point of departure. Tonality, scale and line are released onto huge sails reconstructed through tearing, stitching and layering. Through a free-association with sea, wind, sun and air, I’m inspired by the very concept of freedom—by everything that is inherent to sailing and the vast ocean itself. These ideas are big, and the works themselves are immense.
